Making a Difference Luncheon Brought a Sold-Out Crowd to Their Feet
Malvern, PA (May 24, 2016) – The Chester County Fund for Women and Girls (the Fund) marked its 11th annual Making a Difference Luncheon to a sold-out crowd of more than 300 men and women at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern, PA on Friday, May 6th.
The enthusiastic crowd gathered to celebrate 19 years of Fund grantmaking in support of the Chester County nonprofit community. Grants given by the Chester County Fund for Women and Girls now totals over $2 million to 65 agencies and address a range of critical issues impacting women and girls in our communities, including homelessness, domestic violence, and women’s health. Executive Director Susan Mostek teased the release of the 2016 Blueprint Report: Leveraging Progress. She urged the audience to “leverage our progress and take some steps forward” because “gender disparity prevents equality” and hurts all of us.
Keynote speaker, T. Morgan Dixon, Co-Founder of GirlTrek, brought the audience to its feet with her message of supporting women’s health. She conveyed the importance of walking as essential to the health and well-being of women, a first step in in securing the self-determination of women and girls.
The Fund also presented its Kitchen Table Award to Moira Mumma, an outstanding Chester County resident and a champion of women and girls in our community. Moira was recognized for her extensive contributions to multiple Chester County organizations. Her remarks about the importance of community and collaboration led to the second standing ovation by Friday’s crowd and she later received citations honoring her contributions from the PA Senate, the PA House, and the Chester County Commissioners.
